GODSENT go undefeated to win Mythic Spring Series Cup 2

The Brazilian team surpassed Party Astronauts, Bad News Bears, and oNe en route to a first place finish.

GODSENT have claimed victory in Mythic Spring Series Cup 2, besting their Brazilian countrymen from oNe 2-0 in the grand final to claim the lion's share of the $5,000 prize pool.

The matchups in the opening round of the single-elimination, best-of-three bracket went much as expected, kicking off with paiN demolishing X13 and Bad News Bears easing past Third Impact. Party Astronauts were in for a rough go of things as they were unable to get much going against GODSENT, a match in which Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer walked all over the ESEA Premier side to secure 16-3 and 16-5 wins on Dust2 and Overpass to take the series.

The sole series in the opening round to require all three maps was between oNe and RBG. While the latter team started off strong as they upset oNe on their own map pick, Dust2, they were unable to maintain momentum to close out the series as Matheus "pesadelo" Panisset helped his team gain the upper hand. An 11-4 lead on the CT-side of Nuke gave way to a 16-11 victory to tie up the series, and Overpass was much the same as the Brazilian squad converted a 10-5 scoreline at halftime into a 16-9 win to book a semifinal spot.

With the opening matches out of the way, a Brazilian derby between oNe and paiN ensued, a series that went the distance as the two teams stole away each other's map picks. While oNe were only narrowly able to best paiN on Nuke, 16-14, their own surprise map pick of Ancient did not pay off as Wesley "hardzao" Lopes led paiN to a 16-9 map win, forcing a Mirage decider.

There, it seemed as if paiN had the upper hand as they recovered from an 0-3 start to pull ahead 10-5 at the break, but oNe ran rampant on the T-side to recover and edge out a second 16-14 victory to take the series.

Meanwhile, the ongoing rivalry between Jonathan "Jonji" Carey and GODSENT had another chapter added to its books, and this time it was the Brazilian side who came out victorious in a two-map series to tie the head-to-head record between the two teams at 2-2.

An 11-4 T-side scoreline on Inferno from GODSENT gave way to a comeback effort from Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman's troops, but the first half deficit proved too large to overcome and without their regular hard-hitters showing up, they were unable to run the map back and lost out, 12-16. GODSENT's pick of Vertigo initially seemed less one-sided as Bad News Bears kept themselves within three rounds at halftime, but João "felps" Vasconcellos and company assumed firm control in the second half and gave up just one additional round en route to a 16-7 finish.

felps' good form continued into the grand final, in which oNe were faced with their second head-to-head matchup with a Brazilian team. Despite seemingly close scorelines, GODSENT were in control for the majority of the series, kicking off with an 11-4 lead after the end of their T-side effort on Dust2. A valiant comeback effort from oNe was cut short at the final hurdle as they were unable to force overtime, falling in regulation to a final pair of rounds from GODSENT, who edged out the map win.

Much like in their previous series against paiN, oNe's own map pick backfired as GODSENT put up a stalwart defense on Nuke, mustering another 11-4 lead at the break. oNe came close to evening the score with a string of six rounds at the start of the second half, but once GODSENT stabilized, it was smooth sailing as they won five straight to close out the series and secure their first place finish.
