Bad News Bears take Mythic Spring Cup over paiN

Meanwhile, Triumph and High Coast finished in 3rd-4th.

Bad News Bears kept their winning ways rolling in the Mythic Spring Cup late last week, securing victories over High Coast and paiN to earn the top spot of the event.

In the first series of the semifinals, paiN took a 2-0 win over Triumph - though the series was closer than the map tally would lead one to believe. On Train, the Brazilians took a narrow 8-7 lead into the side switch, and were able to recover from Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman's men taking the opening three rounds of the second half to secure a 16-12 victory.

The roles were slightly reversed on Dust2, as David "cynic" Polster and Triumph mounted a strong opening CT-side to take a 9-6 lead at the half. Unfortunately for the American side, Wesley "hardzao" Lopes and co. were able to match the feat to force overtime, which they would go on to win 19-16.

On the other side of the bracket, Bad News Bears were pushed to all three maps by High Coast, just as they had been in the previous round by Recon 5. The series opened by both teams taking their opponent's map picks, with High Coast winning Inferno 16-9, while Nick "alter" Jackson and Bad News Bears utterly dominated Dust2 16-2.

The decider map, Nuke, was the closest of the bunch, though it certainly didn't start out that way as Michael "Swisher" Schmid and Bad News Bears put up a dominant 11-4 CT half. High Coast were able to chip away at the lead on the back of winning the second half pistol, but the closest they would get would be a 12-10 deficit before Bad News Bears shut the door.

Thus the grand final showdown between paiN and Bad News Bears was set, and Bad News Bears continued to show their prowess on paiN's pick of Dust2, putting up a respectable 9-6 CT-side before a flawless Terrorist half to win the map 16-6. Peter "ptr" Gurney and Swisher were the top-rated players for Bad News Bears on the map, followed closely by Jonathan "Jonji" Carey.

Inferno was a slightly closer affair, despite Bad News Bears holding a 12-3 lead after the first half. The Brazilians of paiN did the best to stave off Swisher and co., but the majority American side was not to be denied, eventually closing out the map 16-10.
