paiN overpower GGPR to win ESEA Autumn Cash Cup 3

The ESEA Advanced side put up a good fight but couldn't bring it over the finish line.

Three days after Sunday's semifinal matchups, paiN and GGPR finally played the final series of ESEA's Autumn Cash Cup 3, which saw the Brazilians prevail over their ESEA Advanced foes in three maps to take the $3,000 prize.

GGPR made it clear from the start that they had no intentions of making things easy for paiN, managing seven rounds on their T-side of Inferno and switching sides down by the slimmest of margins. After the switch, however, the Brazilians won six of the first seven rounds of the second half and were able to comfortably close out the map. GGPR was led by their 15-year-old youngster, Victor "v1c" T., who had 22 kills, while Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt and Rafael "saffee" Costa each pitched in 25 frags for paiN.

GGPR were able to bounce back and steal away paiN's map pick to even the series at one map apiece, thanks to Jeorge "jeorgesnorts" Endicott's huge 34 kill performance. GGPR controlled the pace of the first half all the way through, opening the map with six rounds in a row, then adding five more after resetting paiN following the Brazilians' first round win. GGPR's 11-4 halftime lead gave them room to weather a furious comeback attempt that saw paiN close all the way to 14-13 before GGPR secured match point and immediately converted it. saffee led the Brazilians once again, this time with 29 frags.

After a highly contested opening two maps, GGPR ran out of steam in the decider. paiN took a slim 9-6 lead into the half on Vertigo, but then conceded just two rounds on their CT-side as they convincingly shut down GGPR to secure the map, series, and tournament. Wesley "hardzao" Lopes led all players with 23 kills in the final map, but it was GGPR's other young gun, Israel "LEARSI" Vargas, who led the way with 20 frags for his team in the losing effort.
