vanity led his side to success over 100 Thieves

Liquid, Chaos, EG, oNe score wins on third day of IEM New York

vanity and company took down 100 Thieves in a two-map series in the most notable matchup of the day.

The third day of IEM New York has concluded, seeing Liquid and Chaos sit atop Group B while Evil Geniuses brought themselves up to even keel with FURIA in Group A. The second day of competition had seen all of the favorites prevail, with Chaos, Liquid, FURIA, and Rebirth all scoring wins.

The three initial series saw decisive victories, beginning with Liquid dispatching Mythic 2-0. The stream team were absolutely battered by the North American super squad on Mirage, with a stellar showing from Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and an ace from Michael "Grim" Wince propelling Liquid to a 14-1 lead at halftime. After bringing about an swift end to the first map shortly after the break, Liquid kept up the pace on Inferno, posting a 12-3 scoreline before closing things out 16-6 on the defense.

Despite New England Whalers being forced to utilize former player Brandon "BOOBIE" Roberts in place of Brendan "bwills" Williams due to the team's roster being locked at the time of the Closed Qualifier, the MDL roster got off on the front foot in their Mirage match against Evil Geniuses.

A pistol ace from BOOBIE kicked things off for the Whalers, and although the team ended up on the receiving end of a force-buy that allowed EG up to a 3-1 lead, they quickly got back in the saddle to push up to a 10-5 scoreline at the half. Unfortunately for the Whalers, an incredible showing from Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte (36-16 K-D, 126.7 ADR, 1.99 rating) was their undoing as Evil Geniuses took firm control on the offense, only conceding one round en route to a 16-11 victory.

EG's comeback effort seemed to take the wind out of the Whalers' sails as they fell flat in the ensuing map of Inferno. Tarik "tarik" Celik joined Brehze in picking apart the MDL roster, with the duo leading their side to a quick series finish as they closed out the map 16-6.

In perhaps the most suprising result of the night, Chaos made short work of 100 Thieves, not in a tight affair but in a simple 2-0 battering on Nuke and Dust2. A 10-5 T-side effort on the former map gave way to a 16-7 win, while the latter map saw Chaos ahead 9-6 at the break before they closed out the map, 16-9.

The only series to go all three maps was the bout between oNe and RBG, kicking off on the Canadian team's pick of Nuke. Jadan "HexT" Postna and Josh "pwny" VanGorder were key in getting their side off on the right foot, keeping ahead of oNe throughout the half as the team pushed up to a 9-6 lead. The Brazilian roster were able to finally pull ahead at the start of the second half, but their edge quickly dwindled as RBG began to fight back, using all thirty rounds to claim victory over their opposition.

RBG's hopes of a quick series win were quickly dashed on the ensuing map as oNe found their footing, running up an 8-2 lead. Although HexT and company clawed back five in a row to put themselves within one round of oNe heading into the side swap, Pedro "Maluk3" Campos' troops wasted little time in putting their own map win on the board as they took eight straight in the second half to claim their own pick.

The excitement of the matchup came crashing down on the deciding map of Nuke. oNe ran rampant over RBG in a one-sided first half, with the end of the series following shortly after the break as Maluk3's side closed out the map 16-3.
