Shakezullah and friends are off to a good start in the FPL sweepstakes

After bowing out of DreamHack Open Summer and ESL One Cologne winless and starting ESL Pro League Season 12 with an 0-3 record, Triumph got a much needed morale boost from a successful campaign in Mythic League FPL Cup 1.

A number of noteworthy teams exited the event long before the semifinals, most notably Eclipse, Big Chillin, and ex-Warriors International at the hands of 4-0 ESEA Main side Cohesive Concepts. Other teams that lost in the quarterfinals were Rise, Third Impact, and New England Whalers.

Triumph and Cloud9 traded maps in the first semifinal with each side taking their own map pick before Triumph managed to steal away the decider in a thirty-round contest on Train. In that decider it was Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman that led his troops by example, posting 31 frags to power his team through to the grand final. Ricky "floppy" Kemery led Cloud9 with 23 kills in the loss.

At first it looked like Cohesive Concepts' miracle run could continue as they managed to steal away ex-Recon 5's map pick of Overpass in overtime after ex-Recon 5 collapsed and failed to convert seven match points. But it wasn't meant to be as Dominick "JazzPimp" Dimpfel came alive with 60 kills on the final two maps to propel ex-Recon 5 onward and end Cohesive Concepts' tournament one game short of a cash payout.

For the second match in a row ex-Recon 5 conceded Overpass to their opponent in overtime, though this time they would not come back. Paytyn "junior" Johnson and Kaleb "moose" Jayne combined for over one hundred kills to carry Triumph over the finish line and take home the cash prize and the opening tournament win in the series of six FPL Cups scheduled for the next two months.

Surprised ex-Recon 5 did that well, pretty impressive

Glad to see a new face (for me) in a top 4 as well!
