HenryG hung up his microphone last week, and now will take on a new challenge

Cloud9 add HenryG and kassad as General Manager and Coach

The Brit and Serbian scene veterans are charged with returning the organization to the heights of the ELEAGUE Major Boston era.

Hot on the heels of announcing that they would be entering a rebuilding phase yesterday, Cloud9 have now made it known who the architects of the project will be.

First off, Henry "HenryG" Greer, who announced his retirement from casting last Friday, has joined the organization in the capacity of General Manager. The Brit will be taking over the reins from Will Alfonsi, who joined the organization in March, and also manages their VALORANT squad.

In an exclusive interview with Jarek "DeKay" Lewis of DBLTAP, HenryG noted that he "realized that (he) was pretty much done with commentary" in late 2019 after winning Esports Broadcaster of the Year at the Esports Awards. He went on to say that he had a mental road-map of how he wanted his exit to go, but that went out the window following sexual misconduct allegations (which HenryG has denied) made by an ex-girlfriend in June.

In a piece by Richard Lewis for Dexerto, HenryG had the following to say about what the future holds for Cloud9, :

My plans for this team are certainly ambitious. I wouldn't be involved in any sort of General Manager role unless I had absolute full control of the roster and direction we plan to head. C9 have entrusted me with their entire CS:GO dynasty and, honestly, I think that's one of the boldest moves any org has made in a long time.

The Cloud9 brand speaks for itself, it is one of the absolute cornerstones of the esports landscape. I'm aware there is a certain level of expectation going forward now. Failure simply isn't an option.

The second addition is none other than Aleksandar "kassad" Trifunović, who will be coaching the new project. The Serbian has been inactive since he departed 100 Thieves in late April, and was eventually replaced by Chet "ImAPet" Singh.

In the same piece as above, kassad spoke of how he and HenryG will work together on the new project:

After just a couple conversations with Cloud9 and Henry I realised that we see things the same way. He is super enthusiastic, focused and energetic about this and it really lit the spark that I thought I had lost in the last couple of months. Cloud9 is one of the most respectable orgs in esports and we are going to make sure we put in everything we have to build the CS:GO team they deserve.

With the additions, Cloud9 are:

  • Aleksandar "kassad" Trifunović (Coach)
  • Henry "HenryG" Greer (General Manager)

While "nothing has been finalized yet" in regards to which players will be part of the new project, the signing of two Europeans in such important roles certainly seems to indicate that the organization is once again be looking across the Atlantic to build their roster.

As a reminder, Cloud9's current American-South African squad will continue to represent the organization for the foreseeable future, until the duo have assembled a new team.
