Chaos and Ze Pug Godz set to clash in FunSpark ULTI 2020 Qualifier finals

One of the two teams will hopefully travel to China in December for one of the first LAN events in eight months.

The FunSpark ULTI 2020 qualifier has reached the grand finals, with Chaos and Ze Pug Godz being the final two teams left standing. The two sides will face off on August 15th for a spot in the $300,000 Chinese LAN and a $7,500 prizepool.

Starting in the lower bracket on August 10th, oNe were eliminated following a 2-1 loss to Positive Vibes Only that saw both teams confidently take their own map picks before Positive Vibes Only decisively won Inferno 16-7 to eliminate oNe from the qualifier.

The next day, New England Whalers were knocked out of the qualifier following a one-sided 2-0 loss to Cloud9, although it is worth nothing Marc-Andre "NiSMO" Tayar returned to the team briefly as a stand-in for Ben "ben1337" Smith. After winning Vertigo 16-7, Cloud9 was even more decisive on their opponent's map pick, winning Dust2 16-5 without much trouble.

Starting on Overpass, Josh "oSee" Ohm and Ricky "floppy" Kemery led their team to a 16-7 scoreline. Moving onto Vertigo, oSee continued to shine as  Cloud9 powered on to a quick 16-5 victory, capping off the map with a perfect 6-0 T-side.

Returning to the upper bracket for the winners' finals, Ze Pug Godz faced off against Chaos in a hotly contested 2-1 series. Starting on Ze Pug Godz's map pick of Train, Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro and co. likely began to regret picking their opponent's best map as Chaos won their CT-side 10-5 in confident manner before splitting the next twelve rounds evenly to win Train 16-11.

Heading into Nuke against Chaos a map down, Ze Pug Godz likely felt a sense of déjà vu as they were eliminated by Chaos on Nuke the day before in DreamHack Open Summer. Much like their prior bout, the two sides were unable to deal a decisive blow, forcing Nuke into overtime. Starting overtime on the T-side, Ze Pug Godz immediately found themselves at a deficit as Chaos won the first two rounds in a row before Ze Pug Godz prevented a total collapse by winning the last round of the half. After avoiding yesterday's 19-15 overtime blowout, Ze Pug Godz managed to rally and avoid the 2-0 loss, with a strong effort Austin "Cooper-" Abadir paving the way for Ze Pug Godz to take Nuke 19-17 and force the series onto Inferno.

After two incredibly close opening maps, Inferno proved to be something of a shooting gallery for Gage "Infinite" Green and co. as Chaos looked surprisingly flat on the map. Starting on their CT-side, Ze Pug Godz were steadfast in their defensive efforts, only conceding three bomb plants while winning the half 11-4. After this strong defensive performance, Ze Pug Godz proved to be just as effective on their T-side as the five players only died a total of nine times over the next five rounds, taking the map 16-4 and knocking Chaos into the lower bracket.

In the final match of the lower bracket, Chaos quickly shook off their loss to Ze Pug Godz as they returned to form and pulled off an upset 2-0 win against Cloud9. Starting the action off on Chaos' map pick of Nuke, after Josh "steel" Nissna and co. started their T-side up 6-1, Cloud9 finally rallied their defensive efforts and managed to narrow their opponent's lead to a single round at halftime. However, this round deficit rapidly grew as Chaos won the first seven rounds of their CT-side in a row, immediately forcing map point. The task of winning eight rounds in a row proved to be too much for Cloud9 as after they finally won one, Chaos immediately answered back, claiming Nuke 16-8.

After a strong showing on Nuke, Chaos surprisingly found themselves on the backfoot on Train, with floppy leading the way for Cloud9 to win their T-side 10-5. Fortunately for Chaos, this deficit rapidly disappeared as they won their T-side pistol and the next five rounds in a row. After regaining the lead, Chaos were unable to hold onto it for long as Cloud9 answered back before the two teams split the last eight rounds to send Chaos into another overtime showdown. In overtime, the two squads were evenly matched until steel broke the stalemate with a 3k from his ever-famous auto-sniper overtime buy.  On series point, a 3k from young star Nathan "leaf" Orf was enough to put Chaos over the edge to take Train 19-17.
