Relyks will ply his trade for Cloud9 in VALORANT

Former eUnited and Singularity in-game leader Skyler "Relyks" Weaver has joined Cloud9's VALORANT roster, linking up with Tyson "TenZ" Ngo.

Cloud9 announce TenZ as first VALORANT player

The pair have already competed alongside one another in various cups and tournaments, most recently under the Cloud9 banner in the Immortals First Light tournament last week. Former Rogue member Daniel "vice" Kim also made an appearance on the Cloud9 roster for that tournament, with the team defeating Mixup and Gen.G en route to the grand finals, where they eventually fell 0-2 to TSM.

The duo of TenZ and Relyks also won the Elite Esports Rivalry Bowl in mid-May as a part of TenZ and Friends, which also contained Gage "Infinite" Green, Josh "shinobi" Abastado, and Mitch "mitch" Semago.

Not long after the announcement was made, Relyks took to TwitLonger with a statement, mentioning that Counter-Strike gave him "purpose and direction" and was a "major passion in [his] life for a long time." However, he also alluded to feeling a sense of burnout, alongside "frustration, exhaustion and heartbreak" with the amount of time he had poured into the game, but emphasized that he would not trade his experiences for anything.

Given his growing sense of burnout, something which many other CS:GO pros have begun raising their voices about, Relyks had planned to take a break from competitive play already. The release of the VALORANT closed beta gave him the opportunity to try something new during this period, and although he had no initial plans to switch games, Relyks says that he feels his "competitive fire has been re-lit" after playing the game at length, and has now swapped over.

The fate of some of the members the roster has previously fielded, including shinobi and Infinite, currently remains unknown, with the announcement tweet making specific mention of Relyks being the team's second member.
