Swedish Canadians win Mythic Cup 6

The MDL team dropped just one map en route to a first place finish.

Swedish Canadians have won the sixth edition of the Mythic Cup, defeating Under 21 in the grand finals to earn a $2,000 payday.

Swedish Canadians entered the single-elimination best-of-three bracket as the sixth seed, kicking off their run against Morning Light. A strong showing from Collin "wrath" McSweegan helped Morning Light start the series off in the lead, narrowly securing a 16-14 win on Overpass, but David "J0LZ" Jolin's side were swift to reply as a dominant T-side showing on Nuke allowed them to even the series score.

Mirage unfolded in similar fashion, with Swedish Canadians running up a 9-6 lead at the end of their defensive effort. A spree of rounds to kick off the second half put the team up 13-7 before Morning Light were able to respond, with Dylan "RIKO" Sabin-Arnce helping his side run back six rounds in a row to tie up the scoreline. However, J0LZ refused to concede a loss, contributing to three final round wins to take a 16-13 victory and close out the series.

Meanwhile, New England Whalers and Recon 5 secured 2-0 victories over Big Frames and Yeah, respectively, to advance to the semifinals. New England Whalers had little trouble in dispatching of their opposition, whereas Recon 5 — who were utilizing Erik "penny" Penny in place of Riley "Reality" Fusch due to the player participating in a collegiate match — were required to fight back from a 5-11 deficit on Inferno before dominating on Nuke with a 16-8 scoreline.

Notably, Polar Ace were able to take down Under 21 in their own quarterfinal match, but subsequently announced their forfeit from the tournament due to player scheduling issues. As such, Under 21 were allowed to take their place in the semifinals against the No. 1 seeded Recon 5, managing to open the series with a narrow 16-14 win on Nuke.

Jason "neptune" Tran's side answered back on Vertigo, defeating Under 21 16-8, but Inferno was an entirely different affair as Under 21 decimated Recon 5's defenses for a 13-2 halftime scoreline before closing out the map 16-5.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Swedish Canadians went up against New England Whalers, kicking off the series on Mirage. An 11-4 T side effort allowed J0LZ and company to quickly take an opening map win, setting up a match on Overpass. There, the two teams remained within one round of each other at halftime, but Swedish Canadians quickly took control following the side swap as they ran away with the map, 16-9.

Although J0LZ's form considerably cooled off as the grand final got underway, the trio of Adam "WolfY" Andersson, Austin "AAustiN" Urb, and Ian "battery" Yates stepped up to bat. Another dominant showing on the T side of Mirage allowed the Swedish Canadians to remain in control for much of their map pick, with the team wasting little time in bringing the map to an end 16-7.

A stalwart defense for Swedish Canadians kicked things off on Nuke, allowing the team to lead 9-2 before Under 21 managed to stabilize. A 10-5 scoreline at the break was added on to as a pistol round win following the side swap kept Swedish Canadians in control, with victories against the following force-buy, eco, and first gun putting the team up at 14-5 before a response came through. A valiant effort from Under 21 saw Justin "FaNg" Coakley's side rally back as they won eight of the ensuing nine rounds, but a comeback was not to be as Swedish Canadians clocked in a final round to close out the series.
