Grim stood out individually in online play over the course of January

Grim triumphs in January North American player ranking

January saw just one offline event and a handful of online qualifiers and competitions play out.

With January drawing to a close, we take a look back at the players who competed in the small number of events during the first month of the year. As DreamHack Open Leipzig was the only offline event to take place, we have merged the offline and online results into a single category.

For the purposes of this ranking, the events used to rank players include the online qualifiers for DreamHack Open Leipzig, DreamHack Open Anaheim, and IEM Katowice, Mythic Cup 5, the playoffs of WINNERS League Season 3 Invite, and DreamHack Open Leipzig.

Michael "Grim" Wince topped the board for January as a result of strong showings in the open and closed qualifiers for DreamHack Open Anaheim and Leipzig, including 1.45 and 1.18 ratings in an 0-2 loss to Cloud9. His only negatives came as a result of an 0-2 loss to INTZ in WINNERS League Season 3 Invite, leading to an average 1.32 rating over the course of 12 maps.

Yassine "Subroza" Taofik, Matthew "WARDELL" Yu, and Jake "Stewie2K" Yip were the next three players up to bat, with the trio helping contribute to a first place finish over eUnited in the fifth Mythic Cup. Subroza's 1.29 average rating is especially noteworthy as the player remained on the team's roster for their Katowice, Leipzig, and Anaheim qualifier efforts, while also helping Swole Patrol net wins over ex-iNTACT, Station7, and Singularity in WINNERS League.

Ricky "floppy" Kemery was the sole member of Cloud9 to make an appearance on the board as, despite the team's qualification to both IEM Katowice and DreamHack Open Leipzig, their poor offline showing at the latter event led to many of their players dropping down the standings.

Two eUnited players were joined by stand-in Gage "Infinite" Green towards the lower portions of the board, with Austin "Cooper-" Abadir achieving the highest placement in fifth with a 1.21 rating. Kaleb "moose" Jayne was seen competing for both eUnited and Singularity over the course of the month, averaging a 1.17 rating over 17 maps played, while Victor "food" Wong rounded out the list in tenth place with a 1.15 rating.
