ELEAGUE announce Boston Major schedule

With three consecutive weekends of action, and a new naming convention, there's a lot coming up with the ELEAGUE Major: Boston.

With now just under a month to go until the Major Qualifier, TBS and ELEAGUE have announced the structure for the upcoming Boston Major, including new names for each portion of the event.

The action will be set to kick off on January 12th with "The New Challengers", replacing the Major Qualifier. This portion will feature the finalists from each Minor Championship facing off against the bottom eight teams from the PGL Krakow Major.

The top eight teams from that stage will then move onto "The New Legends" stage, the new name for the Group Stage, where the top eight teams from the PGL Krakow Major will join in the competition. Both of these stages are held at the ELEAGUE Arena, Atlanta.

From there the top eight teams, who'll be the new legends, will move to the Agganis Arena in Boston. This section of the tournament will be known as "The New Champions", where the remaining teams will battle it out to become the new Major Champion.

All action will begin at 10am EST on each tournament day, except for the final day where the action will begin at Noon. The schedule for the ELEAGUE Major: Boston is as follows:

  • The New Challengers stage - January 12th-15th
  • The New Legends stage - January 19th-22nd
  • The New Champions stage - January 26th-28th

With the Major effectively expanding to 24 teams, some questions are still to be answered. Neither Valve nor ELEAGUE have announced if the $1,000,000 prize pot will have a different distribution, but ELEAGUE General Manager and VP Esports Christina Alejandre has confirmed in a tweet that all 24 teams will be receiving in-game stickers and signatures in game.

The 24 teams competing at the ELEAGUE Major: Boston will be:

Minor Champions and runners-up
Australia Renegades Tyloo
AVANGAR QB Fire
Space Soldiers EnVyUs
United States Liquid United States Misfits

Current Challengers
United States Cloud9 FaZe
G2 Natus Vincere
mousesports Sprout
FlipSid3 Vega Squadron

Current Legends
Gambit Brazil 100 Thieves
Denmark Astralis Virtus.pro
Denmark North BIG
Brazil SK Sweden Fnatic

All action will be covered on the ELEAGUE Twitch Channel, as well as on ELEAGUE's own 'Game Command' video player. They will also be releasing a five-part feature series on the Boston Major, released weekly with the first to be released on February 9th on TBS. This will be an "all-access journey with tournament favorites and hopefuls as they pursue The ELEAGUE Major: Boston trophy."

At least Valve is now starting to do something. Hopefully this is a sign of better improvements to the major system to come.

I think it is great that the other 8 teams also get stickers. While it seems confusing to move onto something new, I think that in the long run, it will be easier for new viewers to understand how CS:GO Major Championships work.

I don't agree with all teams getting stickers, I feel as if it devalues and diminishes the accomplishment of getting a sticker in game. From now on, getting to the major qualifier rather than the major will be a big goal for lower teams, as the sticker money will be a big reward.

Just no. This change takes away from the tournament's prestige.

On another note: Valve wake the fuck up. To announce a change like this with about a month left until the tournament with NO ONE knowing it, all the players actually PARTICIPATING in it not knowing what do the changes mean and so on. Once again, wake the fuck up Valve.
