Envy qualify for DreamHack Masters Malmö (again)

After narrowly avoiding a dual forfeit yesterday, the remainder of the qualifier played out in normal fashion.

After last night’s lower bracket finals forfeit was overturned, Envy have re-secured the final spot at DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019 after besting eUnited 3-1 in the finals.

Starting off with yesterday's matches, Sharks managed to take down ATK 2-1 after close series on Dust2, Train, and Vertigo. Starting on Dust2, Sharks put up a rock solid defense that saw them catapult ahead of eUnited to secure their CT-side 12-3. After switching sides, ATK attempted to cut the deficit, winning six out of the first eight rounds in a row, however Sharks quickly regained their composure and closed out the map 16-9.

Moving onto Train, Sharks started off the map by winning the first three rounds in a row on their T-side before ATK launched into a flurry of rounds, outpacing Sharks to claim a 9-6 half. After switching sides, ATK continued to stay ahead of their South American opposition to force the series onto Vertigo with a 16-10 win on Train.

With the series all tied up, Vertigo looked like it would be smooth sailing for ATK as, after Sharks claimed the first three rounds on their T-side, ATK looked firmly in control to claim a 10-5 half. However, after Sharks switched to their CT-side, they stopped ATK dead in their tracks as they mounted a perfect CT-side winning eleven rounds in a row to close out Vertigo 16-10.

Continuing on, Sharks and eUnited started their series off on Vertigo, with Sharks keen to repeat their performance against ATK. However, it was their turn to be torn down as eUnited crushed Sharks to take the map 16-3.

The next game in the series took a few hours to get started due to Sharks and eUnited having to play two different series over in ECS. This situation nearly forced the two squads to forfeit, though in the end cooler heads prevailed and pushed the grand finals to today.

With the prospect of a dual forfeit out of the way, Sharks and eUnited finally got to play on Nuke. Starting on their CT-side, the large delay between maps seemingly helped the South American squad regain their composure as they fought off eUnited to claim an 11-4 lead. Unfortunately for Sharks, their strong performance from the first half did not continue into the second, with Kaleb "moose" Jayne and co. winning the first eight rounds in a row before securing Nuke 16-10.

Fast forwarding to today, Envy faced off eUnited to "reclaim" their spot in the main event. Starting on Nuke, the two North American squads were neck and neck with eUnited narrowly ending their T-side up 8-7. After switching sides, the second half was surprisingly smooth sailing for Envy as they only allowed eUnited two rounds before quickly closing out the map 16-10.

On Inferno, the first half was once again very close as eUnited once again ended the half up 8-7. After switching sides, eUnited got off to a strong start on the offense as they claimed double digits after winning the first four rounds in a row. Envy were quick to tie the map back up as they won six out of the next seven rounds in reply, but eUnited remained resilient in the last four rounds of regulation to take the map 16-14.

Mirage saw less contention than the first two maps, with eUnited trailing 6-9 at the end of the first half. Envy looked confident moving onto their T-side, winning the first five rounds in a row, with eUnited posting only three more rounds before Envy claimed Mirage 16-9 and confirmed their travel plans to Sweden.
