Nurfed and Big Frames absolutely flexed on Prospects, only allowing the team eleven rounds over two maps

Bushido Boyz and Prospects fall to MDL Relegation lower bracket

Two MDL teams and two Advanced have claimed spots in the second round of the upper bracket.

The first round of the MDL Season 31 Relegation tournament has concluded, with Big Frames, Mythic, Thunder Logic, and absolute mad lads all securing wins to advance in the upper bracket.

The first series to conclude saw Mythic pick up a quick 2-0 win over heX, with the stream team dominating on Mirage while Dust2 ended up going the distance. On the first map, Mythic took the opening half 12-3 without much trouble. Following this they succinctly closed out the map, taking the next four rounds in a row.

Moving onto Dust2, although Mythic lost the opening pistol round, they managed to outpace heX, ending the half up 9-6 following strong performances from Donovan "zNf" Froid and James "hazed" Cobb. After switching sides, heX managed to tie the score up after converting their opening T-side pistol. It was anyone's game, with heX and Mythic trading rounds off of each other throughout the half  although Mythic ended up finding map point first on round 28 managing to stave off heX to take the map 16-14.

As for Big Frames vs. Prospects, it was a similarly one-sided affair, with Big Frames dominating on Mirage and Inferno. Starting Mirage on their T-side, Big Frames crushed Prospects, taking a 13-2 half before closing out the map 16-5. On Inferno, Prospects put up a slightly better performance, finding six rounds to end the half with a less drastic 6-9 deficit. However, once the two squads changed sides Big Frames ran away with the game taking all seven rounds on their T-side to take the map 16-6.

Thunder Logic and Just Swing's match finished up next with Thunder Logic narrowly taking the series 2-0 following close maps on Overpass and Train. On Overpass, Just Swing came out the gate swinging as they won their opening T-side pistol and the following two rounds. This lead did now last however as Thunder Logic found the next six rounds in a row to take the lead, managing to hold onto it for the entirety of the half.

Once Just Swing transitioned onto their CT-side they found six out the first seven rounds firmly retake the lead. Their hopes of winning their map pick was short-lived as Thunder Logic managed to claim the next seven rounds in a row to take Overpass 16-13.

On Train, Just Swing looked keen to end the opening half up with a massive lead as they started their CT-side off with eight rounds in a row. As the half continued, Thunder Logic managed to find five rounds of their own, with the half ending 10-5. On their CT-side Thunder Logic answered back as they worked to retake the lead, finding ten out of the next thirteen rounds to secure map point. Just Swing found their fourteenth round after this, but Thunder Logic managed to prevent overtime and take Train 16-14.

The final series of the night saw Kyle "OCEAN" O'Brien's absolute mad lads secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bushido Boyz. Bushido Boyz started off Inferno with a strong lead as they claimed an 8-1 start after winning their opening CT-pistol. Trailing by seven rounds, absolute mad lads ended up claiming the last six rounds in a row to narrow the deficit to a single round. The second half ended up playing out in a similar fashion as Bushido Boyz  claimed another pistol round before winning the next six rounds in a row. With map one on the line, absolute mad lads once again steeled themselves as they claimed the next seven rounds  in a row to tie the map up 14-14. However, Bushido Boyz managed to come back and find the last two rounds to claim Inferno 16-14.

After a back-and-forth map on Inferno, absolute mad lads started off Nuke with a very strong opening half as the team found a solid 11-4 lead with an ironclad CT-side. Upon switching sides, Bushido Boyz put up a similarly strong performance, claiming seven out the next eight rounds to almost take the lead away from absolute mad lads. Their comeback was not completed in the end, as absolute mads lads finally started to find rounds on their T-side, outpacing Bushido Boyz to take Nuke 16-13 and force a third map.

With the series tied up, absolute mad lads came onto Train looking to decisively end the series as they started off by blowing through Bushido Boyz's defenses to claim the first eleven rounds on their T-side. Following this, Bushido Boyz managed to find a handful of rounds, but it mattered little as absolute mads lads kept the pressure up and managed to find a 16-4 win on Train to advance to the second round of the upper bracket.
