Bushido Boyz advance to GEXCon finals
After two days of play at the Dulles Expo Center, following the group stage, quarterfinals, and one of the semifinals, Bushido Boyz, Big Frames, and The Home of the Graves have all advanced into the final day of the $10,000 NCS Major event.
The group stage featured four GSL groups with Group A starting off with a surprise as Ascent dropped their opening match to Eduardo "Link" Osuna's Clout 9. Clout 9 would then drop out of the upper bracket following a loss to Kevin "Grave" Le's The Home of the Grave before being sent packing following a 2-0 loss to Ascent.
In Group B, Bushido Boyz easily made playoffs after receiving a bye in their opening matchup before besting Hollywood's Hooligans 16-7. Hollywood's Hooligans would still make playoffs though as they secured a quick 2-0 over 5 beats per minute.
Group C also played out as expected as Thunder Logic with Jason "neptune" Tran in tow claimed wins over LAN Lords and Northeast Mayhem while Northeast Mayhem claimed the second playoffs spot after winning the decider match against 13th hour gaming.
Finally, in Group D Big Frames flexed on Eco Fraggers Anonymous to secure the top seed in the group, while Eco Fraggers picked up a 2-0 against Yoked to secure the final playoffs spot.
In the quarterfinals, Big Frames started off by claiming a relatively one-sided 2-0 victory over Ascent. Starting off on Inferno, the two teams ended the first half with Ascent leading by a single round. However, once Big Frames transitioned onto their T-side they proceeded to dominate claiming eight out the next nine rounds to close out the map 16-8. Inferno was a similar story as although the opening half was once again relatively close Big Frames put up another strong T-side to claim a 16-10 win on Mirage.

The next quarterfinal to conclude saw The Home of the Graves pick up a 2-1 win over fellow mix-team Eco Fraggers Anonymous. Although the series went to three maps each of the individual maps were relatively one-sided as Eco Fraggers Anonymous started the series off by claiming a 16-9 on Nuke before The Home of the Graves pulled off the reverse sweep with 16-8 and 16-7 wins on Mirage and Train.

Thunder Logic vs. Hollywood's Hooligans was the third series of the night to conclude as Thunder Logic picked up a 2-0 win over the Hunter "Hollywood" Neal-led mix team. Hollywood and his had a good showing on Overpass, managing to tie things up against Thunder Logic early in the second half. However, the team never managed to take the lead as Thunder Logic claimed outpaced them to claim Overpass 16-11. As for Inferno, that map was far more one-sided with Amgalan "genghsta" Nemekhbayar leading the way for Thunder Logic in a quick 16-4 victory.

The final quarterfinal of the event had the recently relegated Bushido Boyz take on Northeast Mayhem, a mix-team featuring East Coast regulars Joel "jcrueL" Cruel, Jasper "sfX" Ko among other MDL and Advanced players. The series started off with Bushido Boyz taking a 12-3 lead on Nuke after a strong CT-side and eventually closing the map out 16-11 after stumbling a bit on their T-side. On Mirage, Bushido Boyz ended the opening half in the lead with an 11-4 before being absolutely dominated by Northeast Mayhem as the mix-team claimed eleven rounds in a row to take the map 16-11. In the end though, Bushido Boyz managed to scrape by after a 16-8 showing on Dust2.

With the quarterfinals in the books, Thunder Logic and Bushido Boyz faced off in the first semi-final and final series of the night. Thunder Logic started the series off with a strong showing on Overpass, notably capping the map off with a 7-1 run on their CT-side to take the map 16-7. On Inferno, although Thunder Logic narrowly managed to force overtime, Bushido Boyz looked in control as they spent the entire map in the lead owing to strong performances from Daniel "picky" Milazzo and William "shonk" Kittrell. On Dust2, Bushido Boyz managed to stay in control as they took a quick 16-9 victory over Thunder Logic to secure their spot in the finals.
