The last Next Big Caster finalists, on a sofa

Next Big Caster returns for ESEA MDL Season 31; Rank S closes in Brazil

The challenge for up-and-coming casters returns after a season hiatus.

ESEA's Next Big Caster Challenge has returned for MDL Season 31. The challenge will see the winning up-and-coming caster join the broadcast team at the upcoming Global Challenge.

Applications are open now until May 3rd, where ESEA will select ten casters to be given GOTV access to the North American division and broadcast the events on their own Twitch.tv channels. From there, ESEA will select the top three and bring them onto the main MDL broadcast and work with the remainder of the team.

As with previous editions of the competition, ESEA will open the final vote to the public and from the final three, one individual will head to the MDL Global Challenge finals as the Next Big Caster. The last edition held saw Mike "DarfMike" Winnick take the crown over Mitch "MagicHelmetTV" Langford at the Season 29 Global Challenge finals. The first edition in season 27 saw Roy "Strong Legs" Ahad take the title.

Another announcement from ESEA today saw them close Rank S in Brazil and Australia. The tournament platform has stated this is to "significantly cut down on queue times" due to "higher level players spending more time practicing and playing officials" instead of competing in Rank S. For those in the regions, they will return to the normal ESEA Matchmaking queue, with leaderboard prizes still being offered every month.

ESEA MDL Season 31 officially resumes tonight, however the first game of the season is yet to be scheduled.
