yuurih was unstoppable on Overpass

FURIA brave Brazilian brawl to advance to ECS Season 7 Week 3 finals

A reverse-sweep saw FURIA earn a spot in the grand finals with a win over Luminosity.

FURIA are the first team to earn a spot in the grand finals of ECS Season 7 Week 3, defeating their Brazilian countrymen from Luminosity 2-1. The series echoes FURIA's win over Luminosity earlier in the week in the second ESL One Cologne open qualifier semifinals.

Powered primarily by Yuri "yuurih" Santos and Andrei "arT" Piovezan, FURIA managed to reverse sweep the series, with yuurih ending the best-of-three at the top of the scoreboard averaging 90 damage per round. The team's in-game leader and AWPer, arT, was not far behind, with much of his contribution coming from a stellar performance on Inferno that allowed for FURIA to dominate the CT-side of the map.

The series began on Luminosity's pick of Cache, with Ricardo "boltz" Prass and Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles helping their side to a 7-1 lead to open up the map. FURIA managed to stabilize towards the latter portion of the half, grinding back six of the final seven rounds to narrow the deficit to 8-7 as the sides swapped over.

That scoreline was immediately tied up as FURIA secured themselves a pistol round victory, but an immediate reset allowed for Luminosity to string together four rounds and regain the lead, emerging ahead at 12-8. Once again FURIA rallied back late into the half, winning six rounds in the time that it took Luminosity to take a single one for themselves.

yuurih and Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo managed to help FURIA grab match point first, but pistols from Luminosity reigned supreme in the 30th round to propel the map to overtime. There, the map was firmly in the control of Luminosity, with Gabriel "NEKIZ" Schenato and LUCAS1 allowing their side a flawless 3-0 half before closing out the map 19-15 in their favor.

FURIA immediately answered back on their own pick of Inferno, taking eight uncontested rounds before Luminosity finally managed to put one on the board. Continuing aggression from arT's AWP, combined with fragging from the rest of the roster, allowed for FURIA to dominate 12-3 at the end of their CT-side, setting themselves up for an easy path to a third map.

Hopes of a quick finish were stalled out as Luminosity began their CT-side in similar fashion to FURIA, with Henrique "HEN1" Teles finding opening picks for his team to grant a seven-round streak for a 12-10 scoreline. FURIA finally managed to put a halt to the streak as two rounds went their way, and Luminosity managed just one final round before FURIA moved the series to the deciding map with a 16-11 win on Inferno.

Although Luminosity initially took a 2-0 lead on Overpass, the majority of the first half belonged to FURIA as yuurih crushed Luminosity's defensive setups. Just three additional rounds went the way of Luminosity in the half as yuurih continued fragging out, with FURIA emerging on top 10-5 as the sides swapped over. Luminosity took another two rounds to start the second half, but those were the last ones they managed to grab as yuurih helped FURIA close out the map 16-7 with a 1.96 rating.
