Ghost continue their good form in Atlanta

DH Open Atlanta Day 1: North America reigns supreme; compLexity and Ghost to playoffs

The home region came out on top in Atlanta tonight.

DreamHack Open Atlanta kicked off today, with four North American teams making their way up to the winners' match, guaranteeing two American teams in the playoffs.

The event began with compLexity taking on Envy on Cache. On Envy's first map offline, Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz crushed the fully American squad, pulling in a 2.01 Rating 2.0 as the team's in-game-leader. compLexity ultimately closed the map 16-6, sending Envy down to the elimination match and bringing themselves up to the winners' match.

The next match in line featured Ghost taking on the up-and-coming Vitality on Cache. As the team's first offline event, Vitality took a strong first half, with Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer gaining his team an 8-7 scoreline at halftime. In the second half, Ghost's investment in Matthew "WARDELL" Yu paid off, as the Canadian player handily won Ghost the pistol round, eventually culminating to Ghost taking the map 16-12.

In the next Group A opening match, eUnited clashed with Luminosity, the only South American team in the tournament. The Brazilian team easily found the first two rounds, but were met with resistance as eUnited began to build up their scoreline, ultimately taking the first half 10-5. Henrique "HEN1" Teles struggled to bring Luminosity back into the lead, as eUnited competed fiercely to maintain their lead, with the North American team ultimately taking Dust2 16-13.

With Kevin "HS" Tarn just barely making it to the venue, Fragsters took on Rogue in the last opening match in Group B. Rogue and Richardo "Rickeh" Mulholland crushed Fragsters in the first half of Inferno. With a 12-3 scoreline at halftime, Rogue immediately took the first three rounds of the second half, securing match point. Fragsters proceeded to win five rounds of their own, but Rogue ultimately closed the game 16-8, sending Fragsters to the elimination match.

With the opening matches complete, the winners' match of Group A kicked off, with compLexity taking on eUnited. Both teams were neck and neck on Mirage, with compLexity only taking a slight 8-7 lead in the first half against Kaleb "moose" Jayne. compLexity made a push at the start of the first half, taking five rounds to bring up their lead to 13-7. eUnited retaliated, ultimately pushing the match into overtime. The map went to double overtime, with compLexity finally taking the map 22-19. compLexity now proceed as the first team seeded into the playoffs, with eUnited moving to the Group A consolation final.

The final match of the day saw Rogue taking on Ghost, who had taken down the anticipated Vitality earlier in the day. Ghost rolled Rogue in the first half under the leadership of Joshua "steel" Nissan, going up 8-3 before Rogue closed the gap, ending the half at 9-6. Rogue quickly tied the score in the second half, but Ghost remained resilient and ultimately edged out Inferno 16-13, despite an impactful performance from Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen. With the win, Ghost proceed to the playoffs, while Rogue move down to the consolation final of Group B.
