University of Colorado Boulder win Java Collegiate Tournament
After taking down the University of Texas at Dallas roster in the lower bracket finals, the University of Houston White team moved on to the grand finals, where they met the University of Colorado Boulders in a rematch from the upper bracket final.
Coming from the upper bracket, UCB had a one-map advantage in the best-of-five grand final. The Coloradoan team took the lead in the first half of Inferno 9-6, before UH-W began to trade rounds with UCB. Down 8-12, the Texan team pulled through five rounds to take the lead 13-12, before UCB began to take rounds back, tying the game 14-14. Andrew "ubandrubew" Seeberger led his team through the last two rounds of the map, with UH-W taking the map 16-14 and tying the series 1-1.
UCB crushed UH's White team on Mirage, with the scoreline reaching 11-1 in favor of the Colorado-based team. UH-W attempted to pull the game back in the end of the first half, but an 11-4 scoreline at halftime did not give the team enough room to work with. UCB eventually closed the game 16-9, bringing them at series point 2-1.
UH-W returned the favor on Dust2, taking the map by storm. With 42 kills shared between Aaron "dooran" Duran and Char "Char" Tu Nguyen, UH-W dominated the first half 12-3. Both teams traded four rounds in the second half, with UH-W ultimately coming out on top 16-7, tying the series once again 2-2.
On the decider map of Overpass, UCB overwhelmed UH-W as Max "SolGoat" Wallace and co. handily took a strong lead in the first half 13-2. UH-W were unable to bring the game in their favor in the second half, as UCB closed out the map 16-4 and took the series 3-2.
