Subroza sees his Canadian squad head to EGLX

First WESG Canada Qualifier concludes; Ghost mix and Those Damn Canadians qualify

Canada comes first for WESG, as Saturday saw the entire bracket conclude in both disciplines.

The WorldGaming-held WESG qualifiers for Canada concluded last night, with two teams securing LAN qualification in the womens and co-ed qualifiers. The teams are all looking to secure qualification to the LAN qualifiers at EGLX on October 26th-28th, and failing that the online playoffs to be held before.

The first qualifier to finish was the Women's qualifier, due to their being just two teams taking part. As such, a best-of-three between Those Damn Canadians and Mirage was played, where the two teams would play on Train, Overpass and, if required, Nuke. Both maps were a blow-out success for Those Damn Canadians, with Train concluding as a 16-5 success for their team, before following it up with a 16-2 demolition on Overpass.

The standings for Women's qualifier A are as follows:

1. Canada Those Damn Canadians (rain, GooseBreeder, missharvey, CAth, Bouchard) - LAN
2. Canada Mirage (smiLey, athxna, sapphire, Alexe1337, Oh_No_Melon) - 12 points

The Co-Ed qualifier was slightly more filled, featuring 22 teams taking part. The first big talking point was the fact that two of the arguably strongest teams in the competition, with Josh "steel" Nissan's Ghost mix and Kyle "OCEAN" O'Brien's mix up north, receiving the two lowest seeds in the competition, 21 and 22. Luckily this meant they were on opposing sides of the bracket so there was no immediate harm, this did however mean Grizzlys were sent straight to the lower bracket by Ghost.

Ghost's journey to the final was a relatively simple one, taking that 16-10 victory over Grizzlys before moving onto a 16-1 win over Farmers Reborn, before a forfeit win from 1 Shot 1 Kill came their way. They then faced an upper bracket match against LiViD, where they lost 16-6 to head to the lower bracket final against up north, taking a 2-0 victory over OCEAN and co. 16-3 on Mirage and 16-2 on Inferno.

LiViD and up north saw their paths cross in their side of the bracket, with LiViD taking the 16-7 win in the upper bracket semifinal. The two teams had differing paths, with LiViD getting there after a forfeit win in the round of 16 and a 16-10 victory against powerMode in the round of 8. up north had to deal with a slightly more difficult journey, picking up a forfeit win in the round of 32, a 16-2 win in the round of 16 before a close 16-14 win against Hyper in the round of eight.

The Grand Final saw Ghost and LiViD have a rematch, with Ghost needing to win two best-of-threes to win the qualifier due to coming from the lower bracket. The first best-of-three win came simply, with Ghost winning Overpass 16-0 and then Mirage 16-5. The second best-of-three was completed similarly as quick, with Dust2 going 16-6 in favor of Ghost, and Mirage being a 16-9 win for Matthew "Wardell" Bowman and friends.

This meant the Co-Ed qualifier A standings were as follows:

1. Canada Ghost (Wardell, Subroza, steel, moose, gMd) - LAN
2. Canada LiViD (smL, KOLER, miLLe, huynh, MkaeL) - 12 points
3. Canada up north (OCEAN, els, DAVEY, Semphis, tyfoon)  - 5 points
4. Canada Farmers Reborn (rugrat, skelly, FaNg, Magowi, fisher) - 3 points
5-6. Canada powerMode (n0swal, theguy, prevox, deriquo, KTX) - 1 point
5-6. Canada Dans ta yuele (dav0ke, virtulent, skonny, thaz, kdz) - 1 point
