ESEA announce Global Challenge for Season 29

Will a North American team finally win a Global Challenge?

ESEA has announced that Season 29 of MDL will feature a Global Challenge event. The seasonal LAN was omitted from last season's schedule, with the league citing overlaps with the player break and other events as the main reasons for skipping the LAN for the season

Akin to the recent iterations of the Global Challenge, the event will qualify eight teams from four different regions.

  • Top three European MDL teams
  • Top three North American MDL teams
  • Australia First place Australia MDL
  • Brazil First place Brazil Open

ESEA have stated that more information, including the event's prize pool, will be released in the coming days as registration for Season 29 comes to a close. As this season is a promotional season, the LAN will also likely host EPL Relegation in addition to the MDL grand finals.

There is a sad and consistent trend that the Australian representatives seem to be better than the NA representatives. Or maybe it was just Swole Patrol, but it has been consistent now that the Australian teams have performed better against EU and NA.

Swole Patrol got annihilated in a ridiculous way by ORDER last Global Challenge lan.

Dark Sided in S24 took Godsent to overtime while destroying the guys from Enigma6.

Grayhound played all of the European teams close while Rise Nation got fucking ran over at every opportunity at Season 25.

Tainted Minds in S23 rolled all of the NA teams and played a close match vs LDLC

What I'm trying to say is perhaps its time to relegate some of NA's slots to another region. Maybe give four slots to EU. Maybe give Australia two slots (ORDER and Grayhound pretty much). But it feels like the top of NA MDL is just not cutting it.

Dust2 Birthday cake!
MDL NA Teams aren't going to get any better if you take away one of their few LAN events.

NA has been getting 3+ slots for dozens of seasons now. NA won't be improving due to 3 slots. Especially since 95 percent of NA MDL teams nuke their roster every season (so every 3 months, someone is getting kicked).
