The new WCG logo is not altogether unfamiliar

World Cyber Games making return in 2018

Silviu Stroie, the CEO of PGL, made the abrupt announcement on Twitter.

Earlier today, Silviu Stroie announced in short-but-sweet fashion that the long-dormant World Cyber Games (WCG) brand would be making a return in April of 2018, with an event in Bangkok.

Stroie also tweeted out the updated logo for the tournament (seen above), which hearkens back to the original.

WCG ran from 2001 to 2011, with the last iteration being won by ESC Gaming — the majority of which are still known today as the core of Virtus.pro.

North America's highest placings at the series came in the 2004 and 2005 tournaments, both of which were won by Team 3D — though those victories came in Condition Zero and Source, respectively.

Stroie did not offer further details on the event, though responded to questions from both Scott "SirScoots" Smith and Dota2 commentator Toby "TobiWan" Dawson by saying that he did not know if the focus of the revived event would be on esports.
