Valve announce Major qualification changes
In an announcement on the CS:GO website, Valve have announced changes to the way teams qualify for the next Major.
The changes are subtle, but major. Up until now, teams that reach the second stage of the Major, known as the 'Legends Stage', would be invited back to the next event in either the Challengers Stage or the Legends Stage, dependent on finishing. This change means that the teams who finish 0-3 in that Swiss bracket will be completely removed from the Major circuit, and will have to re-qualify from the beginning.
These two remaining spots in the next Major will be filled by two of the third-placing teams from the next regional Minors, decided by a brief playoff. So if this change was implemented before this upcoming Major, eUnited would have had another shot at playing in London.
This is the most recent change to the Major qualification structure since the addition of the Minors in 2016 for the Columbus Major, and the combination of the Major and Major Qualifier at the ELEAGUE Boston Major. According to some, including our editor Joe "tolkienfanatic" Cardali, it's not nearly enough of a change to the system.
In other news, stickers for the upcoming Major are still yet to be released.
