eUnited had an easy route to the upper bracket final

Cloud9 and eUnited to IEM Chicago Qualifier upper bracket final

The two favorites have won their two initial matches.

The first day of the IEM Chicago North America qualifier has come to a close, with Cloud9 and eUnited advancing to the upper bracket final. In the lower bracket, Bravado and Ange's Big Toe were the first two teams to be eliminated.

The first series pit Ange's Big Toe against eUnited. Both maps were decisive wins for the eUnited side, with Michael "dapr" Gulino and Brandon "Ace" Winn putting up the highest ratings in maps one and two respectively. However, for the series it was Will "dazzLe" Loafman who had the best performance, posting a 1.51 rating over both maps.

The first map went the way of Vision, with in game leader Andy "vSa" Xu posting 23 kills. Bravado answered back on Dust II with veteran Ruan "ELUSIVE" van Wyk pulling off a big performance with an 81% KAST during the map win.

The final map ended up being a strong victory for Vision though, as Gabe "Spongey" Greiner put up 111 ADR in their 16-5 win. Much like the last series, a different player had the highest rating over the whole series, that being Ricky "floppy" Kemery with a 1.35 rating.

This next series between Cloud9 and BlackOut ended up being the most interesting of the day. The first map was a stomp for the Cloud9 side, with Will "RUSH" Wierzba rolling over the BlackOut side. Interestingly, BlackOut responded with their own decisive map win on Cache, with Chad "Oderus" Miller styling on Cloud9 with a +12 K-D.

The final map went to overtime, with both sides having the advantage at different times. Eventually, Cloud9 with Timothy "autimatic" Ta in the lead won the battle of attrition and took the series. Another interesting bit about this series is that Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham secured the highest rating over the series, something not seen often.

In what could be considered the biggest upset of the qualifier so far, BlackOut took down Bravado to eliminate the South Africans from contention. The first map - Nuke - saw veteran Sebastian "seb" Bucki  secure 28 frags on the way to his team's win.

The second map also went the way of the North American team, with Collin "wrath" McSweegan topping the leaderboard for his squad. This result puts BlackOut against Swole Patrol in round two of the lower bracket.
