EnVyUs announces interest in acquiring North American team
In a press release today, the current owner and CEO of Team EnVyUs, Mike Rufail, announced that Team Envy will be shifting their focus over to North America and are seeking to acquire a team based in the region. This comes after the organization released their 11 French players from their contracts.
Of the reasons given for the release of Envy's French players, Mike Rufail cites the distance between the Dallas-based organization and the French-based roster as causing issues with management and as one of core issues related to housing a European roster.
Mike Rufail later states, for this reason, that they are hoping to work with a team close to Dallas, as opposed to continuing to work with a team in Europe, in order to build "a competitive Counter-Strike presence for Team Envy in North America."
In the ESL Pro League, the only remaining sponsor-less team is boxr, who are currently playing under a moniker in loose association with Mohan "launders" Govindasamy. The lower echelon of MDL, however, contains a myriad of unsponsored teams.
Should Envy sign a North American roster, they would be the third CS:GO organization to have an active presence in Texas, joining OpTic and compLexity.
