After seven seasons in Main, CLG Red are finally granted a promotion.

CLG Red's promotion to Advanced League leaves the community seeing red

Celebrations for the women of CLG Red came to a halt as jilted teams quickly denounced their bump to Advanced.

The ladies of CLG Red were given the pleasant surprise of being promoted to ESEA's new Advanced League yesterday, ending their seven season streak of being hard stuck in Main.

Their elation was quickly stifled, however, as countless community members took to the ESEA forums, reddit, and Twitter to express their disdain for the league's decision to place them in the new division, currently the only gateway to MDL and beyond.

While the bulk of the complaints attributed their promotion to their being female and insinuating favoritism as key factors, a few remained level-headed and proposed statistical arguments that were worth noting.

John "Drenit" is the captain of Prescription Death, a team that narrowly missed playoffs as they finished in the 33rd spot on the ladder, separated only by a single round difference between them and tnt is Dynamite, the final team to make the playoff cutoff. Their team is one of many with similar or better records than CLG Red at the end of Season 27, giving the argument credence.

So why in the world would the 58th ranked team be more deserving of the coveted spot over any of the other teams that preceeded them on the ladder, with better records no less? While ESEA is in no position to have to explain themselves, social justice requires either blood or good and thoughtful reason to quel the ravenous community when they feel justice has not been served.

To begin to understand ESEA's decision we must first consider the process that led to CLG Red's promotion. Upon the announcement of the Advanced Division, ESEA noted towards the bottom of the post that they would be "bulking up the Advanced division through our invitation process to guarantee that all teams who have proven they are able to compete at that level are able to do so."

CLG Red undoubtedly have enough LAN achievements and history to fit the criteria ESEA requires to qualify for an invitation, but the following snippet from the very same post leaves one scratching their head in confusion:

We would rather be more conservative and invite only the teams who undoubtedly belong in a higher division than push out a rushed system which may flood the higher division with teams who will struggle to compete there and devalue the status of being in a higher league.

There is no ambiguity in the above verbiage, and many would be hard-pressed to evaluate a team with seven consecutive seasons without a playoff run as "undoubtedly" belonging in a higher division.

Further intrigue has been thrown onto the fire by Manousos "fows" Kouidis, who in his own Reddit thread alleged that ESEA are censoring conversation of the move up on their forums and even going so far as to ban users.

While CLG Red have gotten a bulk of the attention in regards to the move ups, there are undoubtedly other controversial decisions that were made by ESEA. Are you a member of a team that applied for Advanced and was denied? State your case below!

CLG Red got in Advanced because of 2 reasons. They have a huge sponsor behind them and they are female squad. ESEA and CLG Red won't admit it, but they know both of those were huge factors in them getting the bump to Advance. ESEA should just host a tourney for teams that want to be promoted to the Advanced Division. They can also do the application process, but a tourney for teams that narrowly missed playoffs in IM or Main, and maybe even some Open teams that had a deep run into the playoffs. Just do a double elimination tourney with some type of restrictions like you had to make playoffs in Open to participate and for IM and Main you had to be in the top X-amount of teams to participate. Would be a good way to promote teams and maybe divert the focus from the fact some teams are getting a free pass to higher divisions... What I'm interested to see, is that they have to win what, 6 matches? to stay in Advanced. If so they will be right back down in Main after 1 season. If they manage to hold their own, good for them. They may have gotten a free pass because of the CLG in their names, but it's on them to show they deserve to be there. So I am looking forward to seeing if they can hang, if so I say good for them and rock on. If they go 0-16... well better luck next time lol. I always try and remember, yeah you might get a pass to move up to IM, Main, etc... but that doesn't mean you are ready to be there. Just because you might want to be in a higher division without earning it, doesn't mean you are ready for it or deserve to be there. Everybody always wants everything right now without putting in the work. Rome wasn't built in a day and Pros didn't become elite in a day, aside from maybe like Stewie2k, niko, or s1mple. They are freaks of nature lol. So good luck CLG Red, better get those big girl panties on or you will be right back in Main in a couple months.

bro idk but the team I was on last season Arial arise beat 4+ mdl teams, 2-0d glockoma, only lost playoffs because they had a ffl because their match vs iceberg (which they won) went into OT is much more deserving of the spot.

MDL
Applications should have a set requirement as to what is needed to get moved up. ESEA has always had issues with being transparent with a bunch of rules. Hopefully this all changes with my boy jacko helping :)

Huh, this situation is super weird. Actually, no, not that much. I don’t agree with the move up, but if CLG red deserve to be in main, they will prob get smashed in intermediate right?

They got handed main, they get handed the new division.

Funny though. This is a new division. Certain teams didn't get accepted like Nick Norman's with proof his team can compete on that reddit thread.

Yet, the reasoning is because he let a MDL roster die. I don't think you can hold one person accountable for that without proper reasoning, which I believe he shared in a twitlonger.

NTN and NTC both died. They'll get spots back above main.

There's a rule implemented stating to use 4 out of 5 from the application process in the first 3 out of 4 matches. If he follows that then what's the big deal?

Teams are gonna die in advanced, teams will die in MDL, teams die in main. You can't target an individual that has a proven winning pedigree.

can u also mention the fact that drenit's team played 1 playoff team and got dicked on

clg red played 7 playoff teams and had a .59 strength of schedule which is abnormal and unfair for them statistically
